Why Congress doesn’t care about the shut down

July 27, 2011

Under Article I, Section 6 of the Constitution, members of Congress “shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States.”
Since the constitution thus mandates Congress’ pay, their compensation is not subject to the annual appropriations process.
Indeed, during the government shutdowns in 1995 and 1996 members were paid throughout because their pay is automatically funded.
This is why they don’t care, they get paid no matter what happens to the Seniors on social security, or the military protecting our freedoms. If they did not get paid like everyone else I bet they would find a way to solve the problem and cooperate with each other! This is NOT a matter of Democrat or Republican, this is a matter of greedy politicians, that are supposed to be representing OUR best interests, and have decided that their interests come first.
We need to wake up and decide to make them accountable for their actions. We can’t even seem to get them kicked out for acting like a stalker or a pedophile, they feel they are bulletproof and can do what they want when they want and we can go “p*ss in the wind”. All of them should be forced out by popular vote and replaced with folks that will really listen to us and represent us. They need to be taught the meaning of Representative and the responsibilities that go with it. If we don’t make them do what we put them in office for then we deserve to have them cut our benefits, raise our taxes and basically screw us over.

What is really Wrong Here?

July 14, 2011

LeBron James leaves his team and they are up in arms, burn his jersey, tear his picture. A football player fights dogs, he is arrested vilified and then after time served back to being the team savior. A baseball player says he didn’t use steroids, a manger says he did, call a congressional hearing, string him up!
Wait a minute! What about social security? Some folks can’t collect till they are 67 now. The country’s debt is in the trillions but the congress and senate get their raises. Where is the outrage? Where is the accountability? We elected these people to represent us and support us, not the lobbies and big business. Why don’t we have a flat tax? In 1973 a study said that a 10% across the board would result in a balanced budget and a monetary excess within three years, what happened to common sense? Why do we let these politicians continue to run rampant over our rights, the ones that they are supposed to uphold and support. We elect them and they go on to do whatever they want with impunity and we suffer the consequences. Cities go broke, social security is ravaged, the arts suffer, the needy are punished. What happened to our government? We need to extract accountability from our elected officials starting at the city level and moving on up to the federal. If they know we will not take what they dish out then and then only will we be able to take back out government.

Hindsight is 20/20 but Foresight can be dangerous

June 23, 2011

I belonged to…
I was this
I did that
Why is it we use what we have done to define us and not what we are going to do? Is the past so defining that we cannot live for the future?
I am going to do this
I will accomplish that
I look forward to this
Why can’t we define ourselves by what we will do? Is the future so uncertain we can’t see far enough ahead or plan far enough ahead that we are or will be proud of what we will do? Are we so uncertain of our success that we have to dwell on past accomplishments and not on what we want to do? I do it; I believe we all do it, except for a select few. Fear of failure is the driving factor. If I don’t tell you what I am going to do or want to do ahead of time then you will never know if I fail at something. If all I tell you about is what I have done then, guess what? I’m a success to you, never mind the things I tried to do and either failed or was just unable to grasp the concept or even just learn how. Piano, organ, guitar, scuba diving, choir, these are a few of the things I tried and never got the hang of, or wasn’t very good at. Speech and theatre and computers, now there are some things that I can do fairly well at least I was able to in the past! I will tell you I plan to continue to try and grow in the theatre and learn more with computers, not so much speech now though. We need to live for tomorrow because yesterday will never be as good as we remember it.

Where Have all the Writers Gone?

March 9, 2011

Ah Reality TV, the REAL vast wasteland. Operation Repo, Ax Men, Survivor, Ice Road Truckers, Hard Core Pawn, Pawn Stars, Jersey Shore, Flying Wild Alaska, Dancing With the Stars, American Idol, Alaska Gold, Cops, Las Vegas jail, the list goes on and on. Where are the quality sit-coms, dramas and science fiction programs that filled the air, what 20 years ago? Programs that provoked thought, conversation, laughter and tears, you know programs with substance. We have a few, a very few that are of that caliber, mainly they give someone a camera and point it at people that are not afraid to show millions of people that they are idiots and have no shame or pride. I need money, as much as I can get for something that is valuable so do I sell it on EBay, or take it to an auction house or try to find a collector, NO I take it to a pawn shop and don’t get even close to what it could be worth. Let’s get several other people that have been fired and are losing their homes and take all our money and very little research or planning and go mine gold in Alaska, oh yeah let’s take small children and women too, that way they can enjoy the risks and the bears! Why not go to an island with several strangers and try and back stab and plot our way to the top of the pile. I watch a couple of these, I will admit, however, I choose the ones that show us the results of bad choices or seem to educate in a small way. “Everybody has their fifteen minutes of fame” Andy Warhol said once, why oh why has that fifteen minutes stretched into a weekly series and generated a populace that is willing to degrade themselves to “entertain” anybody?

Budget cuts

February 21, 2011

Why are there discussion about cutting Social Security, VA benefits Arts funding and no discussion of cutting Senator and Congressmen’s pay? Captains of industry have taken pay cuts, why not the Government? They are Government employees just like Civil Service and the Military shouldn’t they be governed by the same rules? What happened to Lincoln’s, “Of the People, By the People, and for the People”? It seems now it is FROM the People. We really must impress on our “REPRESENTATIVES” that they are supposed to represent us, and if they can’t or won’t then we need to replace them with someone that will.
With apologies to Michael Jackson,
“It doesn’t matter if you’re Red or Blue, cut the budget so it doesn’t affect you!”

3D Movies

October 22, 2010

Well thank the Lord 3D has arrived! I mean the technology has slowly moved forward and now it is in the reach of movie makers that really need it. I mean really, what kind of world would it be if we didn’t have Saw 3D or Piranha 3D to say the least Jackass 3D. Boy, am I glad 3D has arrived!

Visability

October 6, 2010

We buy cars with lots of glass so we can see while driving. Why is it then that you feel you are invisible  so you can pick your nose while driving or at a stop sign and we have to see it?
